Social Media Spotlight: Just Jamie Scarves

Today, Progressive Media Concepts will embark on a new blogging concept – a Social Media Spotlight that focuses on businesses who currently use social media and how their marketing strategies are helping to build their brand. We want to give our readers an inside, real-life view of how companies can grow their business, increase sales, and enhance consumer engagement. It’s very simple to sit here and write about all the benefits social media holds for companies in general, but by giving you an actual example of a business that is prospering through Facebook or Twitter will make our case stronger. Our readers can expect to find these kinds of company spotlights every Wednesday from here on out, and if you would like to be interviewed, please do not hesitate to ask. So let’s start our Social Media Spotlight with an awesome entrepreneur, Jamie Futterman from Just Jamie Scarves.

Just Jamie Scarves was launched in August of 2010 when Jamie saw an opportunity in the marketplace to sell scarves and other accessories. She has been using social media to promote her business since day 1, with her WordPress blog, Facebook and Twitter driving much of her product information to her consumers. Currently, Jamie has an e-commerce website (which she created single-handedly) but still uses social media in her daily business activities. To get a better idea of how social media has benefitted her company, we asked her a few questions.
What social media platforms do you currently use?

J: Facebook, Twitter and WordPress.

Why are you using social media? To be a part of the trend or for the value it provides to your business?

J: Definitely for the value it provides to my business. It keeps my customers informed on what I’m doing and which products I’m launching. I also use it as a tool not just to promote my business, but also to talk about trends within the fashion industry. I want my customers to come to me for helpful fashion information and advice in addition to seeing my product offering.

Which social media platform works best for your business?

J: Facebook works best because I get the most feedback through it. I love when consumers are liking and commenting on my posts, and I find that there is more interaction on Facebook than on my blog or Twitter. Facebook also gives me the ability to create events so that my customers can see where I’ll be holding scarf shows.

How has social media impacted your business in terms of marketing and sales?

J: When I work with other bloggers who have a following in the fashion industry, it helps to cross-promote my scarves and accessories. By doing giveaways and contests, I promote my brand name and build recognition for my products. Twitter has also helped me to target consumers through its search capabilities, and I use it to send them direct links to my website.

Do you have any advice for companies who are on the fence about social media?

J: They should definitely use it because it’s free advertising and it’s the best way to interact with your customers on the web.

Is there any social media strategy that you would like to improve or do differently?

J: In regards to my WordPress blog, I don’t really update it that often. I post on average once every 3 weeks. I wish I could do it more often but I don’t have the time for it, although I understand how important it is from a business standpoint.

It seems like Jamie knows what to do when it comes to social media marketing. She’s been successful in using each social media platform to her advantage. By promoting events and engaging consumers through Facebook, finding potential customers on Twitter, and blogging about fashion on WordPress, Jamie has spread knowledge about her industry and products across the web.
