For this week’s Social Media Spotlight, we are proud to introduce a niche social network that pertains to business executives who play golf. World Golf Network is a community of golfers who use the site to grow their personal database by inviting people they know or those they would like to get to know through the membership portal. The members of the site have access to different golfers in multiple states, golf retailers, golf clubs, golf schools and much more! Users also have the ability of creating mid to large-sized golf events for 60-144 people by inviting other members. We had the opportunity to speak to Dan Pincus, the founder of World Golf Network, on their social media marketing strategy, and here’s what he had to say:
Which social media platforms do you currently use?
D: We currently use LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter and are on a host of other social networks to promote our business and network with potential users.
What value, if any, has social media provided for your business?
D: Social media is our business, so without it we wouldn’t be here. However, we not only find our own site of great value for our members and affiliates, we find other social networks of great value because that is the future. Those in the know realize that marketing the old fashioned way is going to be obsolete and working with social networks is where successful businesses will thrive.
Which social media platform works best for your business? Why?
D: That is a difficult question because different social networks bring different advantages. However, if I had to pick one, I probably would pick LinkedIn. LinkedIn is the largest social network that caters to people interested in meeting for business purposes. I believe the future of social networking will become more specific to members’ interests. For this reason, we have created worldgolfnetwork.com. We believe that the general social networks will have their place, but to reach a specific audience and to get more value as a member, specialty social networks will be a real growth area over the next decade or so.
How has social media impacted your business in terms of marketing and sales?
D: As previously mentioned, social media is the strongest platform to build our business and, we expect that other businesses will soon understand the power of the social network. Social media will be a real growth area for both new social networks as well as existing social networks and businesses using this powerful marketing tool.
Do you have any advice for companies who are on the fence about social media?
D: Don’t hesitate to learn everything you can about social networking. If you don’t, your business will be in serious jeopardy. Companies are already using social media and the companies that are not will lose market share. The question is not will that happen, the question is when? I expect that there will be a position within every company that is dedicated to harnessing the power of social networking (and media).
Is there any social media strategy that you would like to improve or do differently?
D: We would like to learn about other social networks, find out how we can be better and build our awareness to all executives that golf. We feel that successful social networks grow because the value they offer is strong and the viral marketing that occurs from being who they are drives their success.
We always love reading what a social media advocate has to say about marketing strategies for business, and Dan hit the nail on the head! In order to stay up with the competitors in your industry, it is wise for businesses to have a social media presence. If you are still strictly using traditional advertising for your marketing strategy, it’s time to mix in some new media marketing! We would like to thank Dan for giving us his insight on the social media industry. If you would like to learn more about World Golf Network or create an account, visit the site here.
