Broward Design Center South FloridaOn this week’s Social Media Spotlight, we are pleased to present you with Broward Design Center, a furniture company that specializes in unique furniture from Indonesia, India, Thailand and China. With the largest selection of outdoor furniture in South Florida, Broward Design Center aims to constantly come up with new and innovative ways to improve your lifestyle while staying on the cutting edge in the design market. We had the great pleasure of speaking with Skye Molineux, owner of BDC, about their social media campaign. Here is what he had to say:

Which social media platforms do you currently use?

S: Right now we use Facebook and we have our website. We also currently show up first for our targeted keywords within the Google search.

What value, if any, has social media provided for your business?

S: We are currently coming on board with social media, but our Facebook has gotten some attention from our customers. We have had our customers request our Facebook page address, and we look forward to posting our products online for them to see.

Which social media platform works best for your business? Why?

S: Facebook since everybody is on it, even my kids. We will be coming online with Twitter, but feel Facebook will prove to be the most valuable as our customers can log in and see our new arrivals without having to travel. They can then purchase the item online or visit our showroom to get a better feel for it.

How has social media impacted your business in terms of marketing and sales?

S: We haven’t seen a huge impact yet, but we know it will be a positive one. I work alongside a guy named Bamboo Barry who has been telling me we need to tweet and post daily. This year we plan to expand our social media presence and are very confident in its outcome.

Do you have any advice for companies who are on the fence about social media?

S: You have to change with the times; you have to do it, for sure. I’m in the furniture business and I see older style furniture businesses going out of business. The big box warehouses have Facebook, Twitter, everybody does. You have to keep up with the times or be left in the past.

Is there any social media strategy that you would like to improve or do differently?

S: Oh this year for sure. Basically I am going to hire somebody to manage social media daily. We are turning our website into an e-commerce site and want to make our inventory available to everyone, not just those who are able to travel to the store.

It doesn’t matter what industry you’re in, social media can help your consumer base and the community surrounding your brand. It is great to hear that Broward Design Center’s customers were asking to visit their Facebook page! We look forward to seeing how their social media campaign grows this year. I would also like to thank Skye for spending time to chat with us, as I know he is very busy with business!
